GTBA takes part in First Triple Organ Transplant at Tampa General Hospital

As anesthesia provider at Tampa General Hospital, Gulf-to-Bay Anesthesiology’s Transplant Division took part in the first triple organ transplant in the hospital’s history. A 43-year-old man who suffered from Type 1 diabetes, kidney failure and liver cancer recently became the first person to receive a triple organ transplant at Tampa General Hospital.

The procedure started on November 23rd and was spread out over two days and involved a team of as many as 75 doctors, nurses and other health care professionals. About 25 people were in his operating room at any one time, including multiple surgeons, the nursing staff, the anesthesiology team.
